About 14 lakh students appeared for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2014, conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) April 6, 2014. Students who clear the exam will be eligible to take admission in the undergraduate engineering programmes in NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutes in India. The JEE Main 2014 exam was held at 150 centres across the country and the result will be declared May 3. It was paper-based and held offline. The online examination will be held April 9, 11 and 12. Only top 150,000 students from different categories who clear Paper I of the JEE (Main) will qualify for JEE (Advanced).  Those who also qualify to be in the top 20 percentile of their respective class XII boards and clear the JEE (Advanced) cut-off will make it to the final merit list of the IITs.

Students felt the Mathematics paper was lengthy while Physics and Chemistry papers were a breeze. Physics and Chemistry papers were very good. I didn't focus much on Mathematics from the beginning itself, which is why I didn't answer it too well either. Chemistry was very simple. Physics wasn't difficult too but Mathematics was quite lengthy.  They found Mathematics was slightly difficult compared to previous years' JEE Main, but there were no surprises in the pattern. They were standard questions normally found in reference books and discussed in classrooms.

Physics, on the other hand, turned out to be moderate with two lengthy problems. The Chemistry paper too was well-planned, with questions largely based on concept application and some repeated from previous papers.
