When it comes to stream wise analysis, students who took commerce stream fared better, followed by science stream students. While 75.68 % of students in humanities stream become eligible for higher studies, percentage of the same in science and commerce streams are 79% and 82.66 % respectively.
Aided schools topped with 82% of candidates becoming eligible for higher studies followed by the government sector at 78.77 %. In unaided sector, only 69.75% students became eligible for higher studies.
The eligibility for higher studies is D+ or above grade for all subjects with 30% scores in theory alone and an aggregate total of 30% in theory, practical evaluation and continuous evaluation taken together. Double evaluation was done for answer scripts of physics, chemistry and mathematics and the tabulations of scores of these subjects were done online. In the case of all other subjects, tabulation was done in the computer lab at the directorate.
Among the districts, Ernakulam topped with 84.35% students becoming eligible for higher studies. Pathanamthitta has the lowest percentage of 71.73. The maximum number of students who got A+ in all subjects was from Ernakulam.
342410 candidates appeared for the Higher Secondary Examination, March 2014 from 1873 schools and 271836 became eligible for higher studies (EHS), the percentage of results for this year being 79.39, last year the percentage was 81.34. The department congratulates the 6783 students who got A+ in all subjects.
Result statistics reveal that of the 180611 girls who took the exam, 154611 (85.60%) became eligible for higher studies while from among the 163736 boys 118687 (72.48%) qualified for higher studies. The statistics for the various streams show that in the science stream 134202 (79%) candidates qualified for higher studies from the 169884 who took the exam, while in the humanities stream it is 53933 (75.68%) candidates out of 71265. And in the commerce stream 83701 (82.66%) candidates qualified for higher studies among the 101261 candidates who appeared for the exam.
