3177 students will be from Class 10 and 5414 students from Class 8. There will be students from private schools in the Mangalore district who will write the two examinations. The increase in the number of students from government schools has been a result of an initiative taken by the district administration to develop competitive spirit among them.
Least two students from each school to qualify. There are many students in these schools who deserve benefits from these examinations, exposure to these examinations would improve performance of students appearing for the forthcoming Class 10 examinations. Preparation for the two examinations started in July with training and orientation for teachers from government schools. Teachers had to take extra classes to prepare the students.
In September, a test was conducted in which 1116 students were selected for special residential training held between October 6 and 20. Facilities available at the four Morarji Desai Residential schools and a private residential school in Puttur were used for the training.
