The LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, has invited applications online on up to October 1 for admissions to B.Ed. courses in various disciplines offered by the government, aided and private self-financing training colleges in the State, controlled by the Directorate of Collegiate Education, for the year 2014-15.

Approximately 11,000 seats will be filled through the rank list prepared by the LBS Centre based on academic merit. Submit only one application. The application fee is Rs.500 (Rs.250 for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes categories) and should be paid in any branch of Federal Bank in the State September 30. Take a printout of the application and send along with chalan receipt and self-attested copies of relevant certificates to the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Nandavanam, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram  695 033 so as to reach before 5 p.m. on October 7.

Those who have passed bachelors degree in science/arts subjects with at least 50 per cent marks in Part III or postgraduates with at least 50 per cent marks in the relevant subjects are eligible to apply. However, for admissions to B.Ed. course in Commerce, the applicant should have obtained M.Com. degree with at least 50 per cent marks.

The entry qualification for B.Ed. Information Technology and Computer Science is MCA, M.Sc. Computer Science or M.Sc. Electronics with at least 50 per cent marks. For admissions to B.Ed. Home Science course, the applicant should have secured masters degree in Home Science with at least 50 per cent marks. Usual relaxation in marks in the qualifying degree examination will be given to SEBC, OEC and SC/ST applicants.

There is no upper age limit for admissions to B.Ed. course.

The optional subjects available for B.Ed. course are Mathematics, Physical Science, Natural Science, Social Science, Geography, Commerce, Information Technology, Computer Science, Home Science, English, Malayalam, Hindi, Arabic, Tamil, Sanskrit and Urdu. The optional subject for B.Ed. should be the one the student has selected as main subject for graduation. Number of training colleges and seats available as follows.

Government Colleges – 4. Total seats – 549.

Government Aided – 18. Total seats – 2,805.

Private Self-Financing – 140. Total seats – 7,646.
