Applications have been invited online up to November 15 on www.cbsenet.nic.in for the National Eligibility Test (NET) to be held on December 28, Sunday, for determining eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and eligibility for Assistant Professor both in.
On behalf of the University Grants Commission, the Central Board of Secondary Education will conduct NET in 79 humanities subjects at 89 selected NET co-ordinating institutions across the country. The candidates who qualify for the award of JRF are eligible to pursue research leading to PhD in the subject of their post graduation or in related subjects and will also qualify for appointment as Assistant Professor.
Those who have secured at least 55 per cent marks in master’s degree in the subjects concerned or those appearing for the final qualifying examination are eligible to apply. Candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) non-creamy layer/Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST), and Persons with Disability (PwD) need at least 50 per cent marks in their master’s degree. The upper age limit for JRF is 28 years as on December 1, 2014, relaxable up to 5 years for OBC/SC/ST/PwD categories and to women applicants. A relaxation of three years will be given to those with LLM degree. There is no upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Assistant Professor. Printout of online application form and attendance slip along with relevant documents should be sent to the Registrar of the respective co-ordinating universities/institutions latest by November 25.
The test will consist of three papers covering objective type questions, carrying total 350 marks. The candidates are required to obtain at least 40 marks in Paper I and II and 75 marks in Paper III in order to qualify. The OBC non-creamy layer/ PwD/ SC/ST candidates require 35 and 60 marks respectively. A separate merit list will be published for JRF and Assistant Professor.
