Periyar University has been accredited with an ‘A’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The NAAC team has accorded final Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.15 points (performance descriptor “Very Good”), while according “A” Grade to Periyar University.
An elated C. Swaminathan, Vice-Chancellor, Periyar University, in a statement here on Tuesday said that by getting a CGPA of 3.15, the University had got a special status among the State universities in Tamil Nadu. He also expressed that the grade would propel the development activities in the University to further heights and students would be benefited to a larger extent. An expert team headed by Bhoomitra Dev, former Vice-Chancellor, Dean Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur, University, and Rohil Khand, Agra, visited Periyar University from March 18 - 20 in connection with the re-accreditation process.
The NAAC peer team assessed the University in various criteria to award the grade. It met all the stakeholders of the University including teachers, students, non-teaching staff, alumni and parents. The team assessed the level of academic, research and other facilities in the 24 University departments. The peer team also assessed the performance of the various centres of the University. The NAAC team presented the report after assessing the activities at University and the grade is based on this report. Mr. Swaminathan said that the quality of teaching and research activities and other extension activities had fetched this great pride to the University.
